The Top 10 Reasons We Use 3D Renderings In Furniture Design

Posted by Ruth Chalfin on Jul 23, 2018 3:27:12 PM

The furniture industry has gained great benefit from the 3D rendering, photo-realistic process. Producing virtual, high quality images digitally provide clear visualization of abstract concepts, unlimited means of customization, and efficient revision of particular elements of a model.  The flexibility of this technology accelerates the approval process while enhancing visual communication with precise and accurate renderings.

We asked our design team to put together a list of the top 10 reasons we use 3D renderings and how it helps the design and manufacturing process.

  1. Helps to better visualize designs

We create the 3D rendering based on the design provided. This shows the designer exactly how the piece will look after production and takes out the surprises.

  1. 3D renderings show specific details that might not be clear in a 2D drawing

With pieces that require some complex installation or hanging- we create a 3D rendering to show how to install correctly, to show any hardware or brackets that would be lost on a CAD.

  1. Helps convey any important construction changes that might need to be made

Sometimes we receive a design for a desk or table and we have to add structural changes for the safety of the hotel guest. The 3D rendering helps communicate those changes to the designer for approvals.

  1. Helps speed up the approval process

If we need to add anything to the design or change anything to the structure we can create it in a 3D rending for approval from the designer without affecting production timeline.  Also, if a change may affect design intent, we like to do a 3D rendering, so the designer can feel confident with the change.

  1. Helps in creating CAD drawings for more organic designs

Sometimes we receive inspiration drawings from the designer and need to create a 3D rendering to fully understand the design before creating the construction drawing.

  1. Eliminates communication errors and provides clear and accurate understanding of how something should be constructed

When something has curves and shapes and is hard to visualize from the CAD we create the 3D rending to better explain to the factory the final product- clarifying construction details.

  1. Technology incorporated furniture design

Helps the designer visualize where technology is being added and how the hotel will be able to access and maintain tech.

  1. Marketing / realistic photos for websites, etc.

Hotels can use 3D images for their website prior to production to capture their market; enticing prospective guests and booking advanced reservation while promoting the property.

  1. Gives designers more confidence in their decisions.

3D rendering is a powerful tool providing designers with a pre-production image demonstrating exactly how the piece will look and feel in the room with respect to dimension, scale, and alternate view.

  1. The process allows for tremendous cost savings.

Flexibility with no limitations in exploring all aspects of the design can help determine problems in advance.   Sketches and models are created more quickly and easily with 3D rendering technology, identifying flaws that may be overlooked in a 2D approach.

In our detailed business of furniture design and execution, 3D rendering technology has become an essential aspect of our industry. We now take a concept in the form of a 2 dimensional sketch or design and create a photo-realistic 3 dimensional finished product in virtual space.   It’s the next best thing to reality!
